The Artistic Vision of Robert Jacobs
"Since childhood, I have been fascinated with mythology, keeping that fascination alive in my artwork and writing, portraying the emotional, psychological and spiritual transformation that we all experience. Each human life is unique, yet woven together with all humanity through universal emotions and collective human consciousness. The imagery of dreams, mythology and religion share the archetypal symbols that convey illustrations of transformation. These symbols and the human form itself connect us all in a common experience. The expression of my artwork and writing uses the surrealistic imagery of dreams and myth. We are the heroes of our own dreams and mythic lives. The most transformative moments of our lives are surreal: a shift in time, space and perception. The creative process for me begins with the arrival of visual concepts and word imagery in my poetry. Painting or sculpture follows in the visual dimensions, manifesting these concepts in mythic and archetypal forms. The audience completes the circle of the creative process in their appreciation of the work. The point in time and space that an artist occupies is quite small, but the connection an artist can make with the infinite imagination is limitless. Robert Jacobs September 2025

Images of religious iconography survive from ancient times in temples, chapels and monasteries across Europe and the Middle East. An iconic face and form reveals a portrayal of the expansion of consciousness: an image conveying the art of being fully real within a surreal world. This quintessential symbol of conscious being holds all experience in momentary awareness. Time and space are turned inside out and upside down, with common places and sacred sites appearing within the grasp of one realized center of focus. Innocence balances within experience, with undercurrents rushing through the roots of belief and perception. Fragments of Coptic verse tell us of alternative scripture spoken from the mouth of the most iconic voice of the western world. "Whosoever drinks from my mouth will become like me; I myself shall become that person, and the hidden things will be revealed to that person." "The [divine] kingdom is spread out upon the earth, and people do not see it." "When you make the two into one, and when you make the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner, and the upper like the lower, when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male will not be male nor the female be female, when you make the eye in place of an eye, a hand in place of a hand, a foot in place of a foot, an image in place of an image, then you will enter the kingdom."

- We are born into diverse cultures in our innocence, donning masks and costumes of our ancestral heritages, arriving to embrace the truth of our identities as innocent children: immersed in a Light that surrounds us. The Greek word "Argonauts" means bright travelers. Every soul embarks on a journey of experience and discovery, navigating between the clashing rocks of dualistic ideologies, seemingly carved in stone, to realize our innate peace, innocence and sovereignty of being. As aware souls, we somehow catch glimpses of that infused stardust we are made of, keeping the heroic journey of return alive, as Argonauts of Soul.

- The primordial tree is an archetype of our origin and expansion: rooted in our earthly world, yet reaching skyward into realms of infinite realization. With each breath of life, our deeper roots, passionate fire, and inner Light exist as ours to discover. Elements of water, earth, fire and air rise up from the depths of elemental being to compose our forms and our world. We explore a reality comprised of the elements in our active roles of creation and evolution. Light opens a vision of the eternal and infinite reaches of reality, which all branches of burgeoning life extend towards, reflecting and projecting microcosms into the macrocosm of an unlimited cosmos, seeing itself in each minute form as a perceived point of wholeness, seeded in our original divine intention.

Identity and perception, imagination and impression, projection and reflection: these are elements of being that define who we believe we are. The visible and the invisible qualities of our chosen or assumed identities express who we perceive ourselves to be. No one truly knows us the way we know ourselves. And yet, we can become a reflection of those around us, while projecting an imagined identity upon them. Each awakening entity can observe and become aware of the roles we play in our own life dramas, removing the masks of persona by finding the visible and invisible signs within our seasons of transformation, finally to discover our own radiant face of true design.

In the creation myths of the ancient Greeks, the metaphorical Earth Mother Gaia unites with Ouranos, the archetypal Sky Father, to conceive the Titans of this cosmos within Infinite Consciousness; and the passion play of opposites among the elemental forces of existence begins. All dynamic drama is conceivable through projection and receptivity, realized in the fertile landscape of the layered planes of experience. The textured tensions of expansion and compression churn to extend the perceived limits for every soul to explore. In the mythology of the ancient Greeks, the mighty hooves of Pegasus released the Fountain of the Muses on Mount Helicon. The emergence of Pegasus from the slain Medusa was the heroic act performed by the soul at one with divine imagination: satisfying the mind and contenting the heart, when intuition and reflection conquer distraction. Higher aspirations of the mind take flight within powerful wings, lifting the rising form of the horse, expressing the freedom of creative and poetic release. Conceived from the unconscious desires, collective thought forms and instinctual emotions, the archetypes of myth coalesce within the winged offspring of Medusa and Poseidon, merged in the temple of Athena, to be born as the ascension of wisdom and creativity, arising from unbridled passion, impulse, and chaos. Divine impressions impart wisdom and guidance to spiritual travelers along the paths of every faith, often characterized in scripture, lore, and legend as Angels. these messengers bridge that mentally conjured chasm between the human and Divine. Most ancient traditions portray these Divine visitors as male entities of power and grace; and yet the transcendent manifestation of Divine Presence bears the revered accolade the Queen of Angels and Bride of Heaven. As Holy Mother Mary of Christianity, Shekhinah in Judaica, and Pistis Sophia in Gnosticism she infuses the radiance within which the human and Divine touch. Nurturing humanity and creation, she seals an indwelling bond upon the hearts of all who embrace the Heavenly Light of Divine Surrender.
